Cobra ODE is an optical disc drive emulator, with which we can play backups of PS3 games from an external HDD. It can run on official firmware. Now it is available on the official reseller www.dwtechz.com.

Step 1: Unboxing Cobra ODE

According to the user guide, you should use the cables based on the model of your PS3 console. Here the tester installed a CECH01A PS3. It only needs three ribbon cables, 1 power cable and two PCB’s. Step 2: Installing Cobra ODE

Then he removed the original ribbon cable from the Blu-ray drive. Then he replaced it with two cobra ribbon cables. One cable connect the Blu-ray and Cobra ODE and another one connect Ode and the motherboard.

Next the original power cable from PSU to the motherboard should be removed too. Then instead it with the Cobra power cable, which contains an extra wire to power Cobra ODE.

The next step, he used a smaller ribbon cable to go from Cobra ODE to a small board. It includes a USB socket and a switch, which controls the “Passthrough” and “Emulation mode”.

Step 3 Preparing the HDD (Hard Disc Driver)/USB Disk for ISO’s

Open your USB Disk and create a folder named “Cobra ODE”.  Then go to Cobra ODE official site to download the Cobra Manager RAR file here http://www.cobra-ode…ager_Fixed.rar

Extract the RAR file and you will get two files manager.iso and cobra.db. Drag the two files into the “Cobra ODE” folder.

Step 4: Preparing the ISO

This step is to turn the game file into a ISO format.

Download the GenPS3iso from http://www.cobra-ode.com/downloads/GenPS3iso.rar

With the GenPS3iso app, your game can be turned into a ISO file.

You can run the GenPS3iso and choose your game folder. Then you can go to the HDD or USB disc and create a new folder called “PS3_Games” for new ISO file.

Step 5 Play PS3 Games with Cobra ODE

Then you connect the hard driver to the new USB port that you have added to the back of your console. A boot disc should be inserted in emulation mode. The Cobra ODE is compatible with some boot discs. You can see here http://www.cobra-ode.com/downloads/Cobra_ODE_Supported_Boot_Discs.pdf

Insert your disc into the drive and boot the Emulation mode. Then you will see the Cobra Manger in the game section. Launch the manager and the ISO files will also appear. Press X to select the ISO. Then the cobra manager will ask you to turn off your console.

Then reboot your PS3 and then you can see ISO in the game section. After that, you can run games and enjoy it.
